Is Guatemala Safe For Me And My Family ?

Guatemala doesn't have a reputation for being the safest place in Central America; however, travel warnings and stats don’t always paint a true picture of what it’s like to actually be in the country.  For example, most violent crime in Guatemala is gang-related and only affects locals living in certain areas.  As such, the chances of a tourist becoming a victim are unlikely.  Tourism is one of the main forces behind the Guatemalan economy, and there are dedicated Tourist Police to ensure their safety while here.  Most issues travelers experience could happen anywhere, and Guatemala is primarily a safe destination for travelers.  Pickpocketing, bag-snatching, and robbery on rural hiking trails are the most frequently reported issues.  Travelling smart, no matter where you are visiting, is key.  Be aware of your surroundings and don't carry a lot of cash or valuables on your person.  Your safety and well-being are also of the utmost importance to us, so all of our guides, lodging, and transportation are highly vetted and trusted.
